Problem:
Like many WordPress websites that look beautiful but load slowly, script and file issues on the website were preventing users from getting to the content they needed- namely the book page, which was loading so slow that at times it didn’t load at all!
This was a major problem because the book was the core product offering for the company.
Additionally, because Instagram is a huge part of the brand’s platform and the feed needed to remain on the site, the slow-loading Instagram scripts only confounded the page loading issues.
They commissioned Cowbelly to ‘fix it’.
Solution:
Control the scripts that loaded, swap out bad ones with good ones, configure plugins to improve the overall site and page performance, remove uneeded ‘junk’, optimize photos and optimize and configure fonts.
These changes resulted in the site loading 3x faster, and the book page having no more issues, which means that the book sales could go on.
Biggest challenge:
Trying to tie in the biggest speed hog- Instagram, to the site without it ruining all our hard work.
Best part of the project:
Seeing the new speed metrics and knowing that users of the site would no longer be blocked from picking up the book, adopting a dog, or donating to the cause.
